In Shadow of a Doubt, Young Charlie realizes that Uncle Charlie is a killer from what source?12/7/2023 And then they die and leave their money to their wives, their silly wives. The cities are full of women, middle-aged widows, husbands dead, husbands who've spent their lives making fortunes, working and working. Their minds are intertwined but opposite, with Uncle Charlie wanting to return back to a simple, traditional life, and young Charlie wanting to escape and be a modern woman.Women keep busy in towns like this. Then Young Charlie has this song stuck in her head at the dinner table, so we can assume that she has somehow heard this song right out of her Uncle’s head. When he grows up and sees the true “ugliness” of modernity, he must think back to this memory often. The opening scene of adults waltzing to the Merry Widow Waltz is presumably a memory from when Uncle Charlie was a young boy, watching his parent’s beautiful and lavish lifestyle and believing the world was a beautiful place. There is another instance of “telepathy” as well. When Young Charlie finds out that Uncle Charlie has written to say he is going to visit when she has gone to write to him to ask him to visit, she believes they have used telepathy. Not only did Hitchcock demonstrate that their lives mirror each other’ through camera shots that are literal mirror images, such as the opening scenes of their windows and bedrooms, but through more far-fetched means as well. One interesting aspect of Shadow of a Doubt was the connection between Uncle Charlie and Young Charlie.
